In the past year, college student ownership of tablet computers has tripled, reports the Pearson Foundation in a new study released just a week after the iPad 3 came out. Results from this study reveal that students believe tablets and mobile devices will transform learning in the future. In fact, the majority of college students and high school seniors who participated in the study think tablets will, “effectively replace textbooks within the next five years.”
While this study examined student perceptions on how tablets are changing their expectations about their education experience, it also provided some statistical data showing just how digital readership has grown over the last year.
What are your thoughts on the direction that education is moving in conjunction with technology? Do you agree with the student estimation that tablets will completely replace textbooks before the decade is over? Do you still use a printed textbook or have you gone completely digital in your course?
