With so many out of work during these difficult economic conditions, The Wall Street Journal asks an extremely timely question to current, past and future students: "Is an M.B.A worth it?"  While graduate programs continue to experience decreases in enrollment, many are asking if an M.B.A. is worth the time and investment.

What do you think?  Are you advising your graduating students to continue on to obtain an M.B.A. given the economic climate?  Would you recommend out of work professionals obtain an M.B.A.?  We'd love to hear your thoughts!

I believe an MBA is worth it.  Yes, these are difficult economic times, but they will not last forever.  If a person starts an MBA program now, they will have it as the economy is on the upswing.  The business world will be different on this side of the "Great Recession" and knowledgable people will be needed.

I am indeed advising graduating and undergrad students to consider M.B.A. in order to maintain their currency in the workforce.  an M.B.A. is worth it only insofar as to NOT have it severely disadvantages a person in the workforce.

As to out-of-work professionals, my recommendation is based on their age, and then this is layered on top fo the previous comment that I mentioned I make to graduating students.  However, with so many online M.B.A. schools proliferating, there is a sense that the designation is becoming meaningless in large part.  it would appear that the source of an M.B.A. is of less concern in academia than it appears to be in the non-academia world.  I'd love to hear others' experiences or comments about this.
